Disability Leave For Pregnancy – Some years ago, many employers and companies were not supportive towards women and their role as mother. In California, Disability Leave For Pregnancy orders the company with at least five employees to provide up to four months of unpaid disability leave for pregnancy employees, childbirth, and related illness. The Act also orders the employers to transfer workers who fill the qualifications under the act to less strenuous or less hazardous position if it is applicable. The only excuse which company has to refuse giving these accommodations is if the company is able to prove the accommodation puts strain or burden on organization.

Pregnant employees with the qualification for pregnancy Disability Leave are allowed to take up to four months of unpaid leave. You can use this leave as the addition to 12 weeks which are provided by CFRA or the California Family Rights Act. However, it will run concurrently with federal unpaid leave provided by the Family Medical Leave Act or FMLA. Employees are able to take the leave all at one time or in small increments if it is recommended by their health care provider. Disability Leave for Pregnancy is applied to women who work full or part time and who have been employed for any length of time.

Disability Leave for Pregnancy provides some benefits for women employees. They will have seven months from the leave and time given by federal government to bond with their newborn after childbirth. It also provides additional time for women to make challenging transition and acclimate to motherhood. Women can also use the leave if their health care provider orders them to bed rest, for prenatal appointments, and severe morning sickness.

Before you are eligible for Disability Leave for pregnancy, you need to request it to your company. In requesting pregnancy disability leave, you need to provide the medical proof of your disability for your employers. During your leave, your employers might discontinue some benefits like health insurance. You must notify your employers 30 days prior to leave, except there is medical emergency which makes you unable to give advance notice. The notice which you give to the employer should include the leave date starts, the amount of time needed, and explanation of the disability.

Disability Leave for Pregnancy is commonly unpaid. However, there are some conditions where it can be paid upon request or by substituting vacation or sick leave. During the leave, women might be eligible for temporary disability payments under short term or supplemental disability plan.
